Hey Chad,
Aaron Cordovez is on track to rake in $1.3 million this year from just one ASIN.
His reign as the #1 Amazon Best Seller in Garlic Presses has been unchallenged since 2020.
This is the strategy of Aaron Cordovez (I've pieced together his remarkable ranking playbook, step by step):
Based on my estimates and analysis ๐, Aaron Cordovez will make $1.3M this year on 1 ASIN.
He's maintained the #1 Amazon Best Selling Badge on Garlic Press since 2020.
His launch strategy caused him to lose more than $327K but now makes $110K monthly.
Here's how to replicate his company Zulay’s strategy (bookmark this):
Here is his launch system to rank #1 on Amazon:
In June 2019, Aaron Cordovez listed his famous Zulay garlic press.
Everything started with a below-market price.
And he turns his low price into a category leader, strategically discounting by 50%:
He sustains a massive discount to market for 15 months resulting in ๐งจ #1 Best Seller in the category
Here’s how he owns the niche and that’s by owning top of search:
The main keyword, “garlic press” get’s around 83K searches per month
There are other relevant KWs, but this is the HERO keyword.
So how does he dominate this keyword?
Running paid ads at a loss.
Sounds simple enough.
But here’s where it gets ๐ถ๏ธ
He does what most brands are unwilling to do
—> to sell at an astounding loss for MONTHS - 11 months, to be precise
This is the exact opposite of what most brands are willing to do
Everyone wants to be #1 Garlic press
But how many will actually follow through and willingly lose money like what Aaron did?
Instead of gradually getting the product to rank, Aaron drops his price and generates a large loss to the tune of $327K
The magnitude of price drop? Up to 50%.
The frequency of monthly price drops = 3x on average
He experiments with price changes to rank:
You might look at his BSR success on Garlic press and think Aaron had it all figured out.
But you couldn't be more wrong.
Price exploration is key. He has tried at least 48 different prices in the first 15 months.
Typically 3 price changes on average per month, some of these price experiments have failed miserably.
Now of these 48 price changes in the 15 months, 27 were increases and 21 were decreases.
The optimal decision is not always to maintain a lower price on Amazon.
Aaron's break-even point was a 25-month journey to profit
Let's crunch the numbers:
In the first year, Aaron's bold strategy led to a $327K loss. But now, he's raking in 4X that amount annually.
How? It's all about the power of strategic loss for long-term gain.
By absorbing initial losses, Aaron set the stage for massive gains.
His first year was tough, but his perseverance is paying off big time.
He does something very smart to catapult his profit:
He uses his HERO variation as a LEAD MAGNET and loss leader
Aaron strategically prices his hero variation at a loss. Yes, a loss.
But here's the twist:
He offers a full spectrum of color variations (rose gold, green, red etc) at 43% higher prices on average which have far superior unit economics.
We estimate at least 25% of customers opt for these higher-priced variations. It's a classic bait-and-switch or Amazon cross-selling 101.
That 25%, increased his profit by 66% and offsets some of the loss from the HERO variation.
For the first 11 months, Aaron laid the groundwork:
BSR in Kitchen and Dining: #6,405 on avg.
Unit Sales: 45,800
Total Profit: -$327K (a loss, the cost of his ranking ambition)
For the last 11 months, he had:
BSR in Kitchen and Dining: #160 on avg.
Sub-node Garlic Press BSR: #1 on avg.
Unit Sales: 341K
Total Profit: $1.2M (A staggering turnaround)
Aaron's manual price changing strategy was a high-stakes game.
